Through the Flames

Performed at the El Paso Museum of Art on October 23, 2021, for Día de los Muertos celebration.

A woman ties me to the trunk of a tree and then proceeds to do a ritual dance around me as she prepares to burn me at the stake. Another woman embroiders a scarlet A onto my chest.

This piece symbolizes the transition from life to death: a rebirth, a change of state from body to spirit.
