The Silence

Performed on October 23, 2021 at Studio Metropolis in El Paso, TX.

People walk into an empty room full of chairs facing a giant mirror. A toilet flushes, and I walk out of the bathroom dragging a tall lamp and stool across the floor. I place them in the corner and sit facing the audience. They sit in silence waiting for the performance to begin. As time passes, they realize that the performance has already begun. As we all sit there in total and utter silence for more than an hour, the mutual silence becomes the performance. On a table, there are small chapbooks of silent poems for people to take as gifts. The poems consist of silent songs handwritten and composed by me.
