Fake Wedding
I met Roland Esparza on New Years Eve 2019. We decided to get married after two days of knowing each other. I had a wedding dress, veil and rings made, and we invited all our friends and family to a backyard wedding at the Pershing Inn. Almost everyone was angry and upset that we were getting married.
I did not tell anyone until about 6 or 7 months later that the wedding was a performance piece. Some of my friends and family still think I am married.
This performance piece was a way to explore convention, tradition, and how we assign meaning to the people and things in our life.
In collaboration with artists,
Roland Esparza and Aaron Alonso.
